One of my too-lucky friends spent last week tackling Pikes Peak on his dirt bike. I was pretty jealous of his constant Facebook updates, even his ugly wipeout on one of his first runs. That is, at least until I saw a video starring one of the 800 horsepower Ford Fiestas brought to Pikes Peak in a battle for uphill domination.

The video comes from YouTube via Autoblog, and is an homage to the movie-short Climb Dance, detailing a record setting time.

Clocking in at almost nine minutes, the Fiesta video chronicles Marcus Gronholm’s climb to the top of the 12.42 mile race course. Dubbed “The Race to the Clouds”, the Pikes Peak hill climb isn’t the only place these 800 horsepower Fiestas will be seen in the coming months. Making 400 horsepower-per-liter, these monsters are aiming to dethrone the WRX and Mitsubishi EVOs of the world.

Alas, 800 horsepower wasn’t enough to set any records, or even break the Olsberg Motorsport Evolution team record. For all that power, Gronholm’s Fiesta was the only one to even finish the race. His teammate Andrea Eriksson crashed during practice and did not finish. Gronholm came in about 1:13.5 behind reigning Unlimited Class champion, Nobuhiro Tajima and his Suzuki SX4 (in name only). Still, the video is worth a look and features some spectacular views from both in and outside the car.
