The X-Games are Generation X’s answer to the Olympics. On steroids. The competition involves aggressive inline skating, snowboarding, and other action sports. Since 2006, the competition has also included the X-Games Rally, where cars race and run and jump in order to impress the judges. Since its inception, the rally has been dominated by two names, Travis Pastrana and Tanner Foust. Both drove Subaru WRXs.

But according to the Mustang News, the new kid on the winners block is the Ford Fiesta.

In fact, the Ford Fiesta grabbed both 1st and 3rd place, dominating the winners circle for their first showing at the X-Games. Driver Kenny Brack from Sweden took home the gold in his 450 horsepower, production-based turbocharged Fiesta. He beat out returning-champion Travis Pastrana, and even faced off against teammate Tanner Foust in the semi-finals. Foust was piloting a Fiesta too, which he had described as “an angry little beast” earlier in the week.

A third Fiesta, piloted by Brian Deegan, a former motorcross star, finished fourth overall when his turbo tubing wouldn’t stay put. Both Brack and Foust were piloting Fiestas for the Olsbergs Motorsports team, the same guys behind the 800 horsepower twin-turbo Fiestas that tackled Pikes Peak last month (but broke no records). This is some great publicity for the little Fiesta, as Ford is certainly beating its war drums for the hot little hatchback. Let’s hope they actually end up offering an AWD turbocharged Fiesta like we’ve seen in the past month, even if it only has say, 250 horsepower. That would certainly put a dent in Mitsubishi and Subaru’s dominance of the AWD sport compact market.
