Steven Webb of Michigan is in the latter stages of preparing an all-new turbocharged combination that is certain to make his 1993 Mustang Coupe a terror on the streets and the strip.

The sharp Fox Body coupe was previously powered by a naturally aspirated 347-inch Ford backed by a five-speed transmission, and posted best elapsed times in the low 10’s at over 130 MPH. Despite numerous modifications – including a new SPEC clutch and Strange Pro-Race axles, spool, and brakes, - and attempts at breaking into the 9-second zone, parts attrition has kept the team mostly sidelined the last couple of seasons.

In late 2008, Steven was offered a great deal on a Dart Iron Eagle block and planned to set it aside to later build a high-RPM nitrous combination. However, those plans were scrapped for what you see here…a Dart 8.2 364-inch small block Ford with AFR 205cc cylinder heads, a custom solid roller camshaft and custom Ross pistons by Competition Components. All topped off with an EFI-converted Edelbrock Super Victor intake with fuel rails and elbow from Supernatural Turbo.

According to Steven, the team had largely steered away from fuel injection simply due to lack of experience in the tuning aspect and thus, initially, the new engine was slated for a blow-through carburetor setup. After speaking with renowned tuner Don Bailey, Webb could no longer think of a reason to not go the EFI route. At that point, the decision was made to switch to a Big Stuff 3 system tuned by Bailey.

The turbocharger setup will include a single 88mm unit with an air-to-air intercooler and all hot and cold side plumbing fabricated by Supernatural Turbo, and a Tial wastegate and blow-off valve. The new combo will be backed by a new TH400 transmission with a pro brake and a Precision Performance air shifter. Although the car is intended to be street-driven and locally raced on pump gas, Steven says to look for them at upcoming NMRA events and even their local heads up series.
