Mustang Fans Get Married In Dealership

Friday, February 26th, 2010
The Ford Mustang is many things to many people. For most of us, it is a fast, fun car that is easy to modify and enjoys a mystical place among Americana. For others, it is a collectors item, worth more in money than sentimental value. For others it is a topic of discussion, the center of a car club, and a way to meet other people of like mind.

The Jacksonville News reported that two Mustang aficionados decided to tie the knot in a local Ford dealership, a romantic setting for any true gearhead.

Vickie Sue Patrick and Ronnie Cox first met at a church, and within three minutes they were talking about Mustangs to each other. This just proves that Mustangs are capable of bringing people together. When Cox proposed six months ago, he asked Vickie if they could be we in a Ford dealership. They called around and Bozard Ford Lincoln Mercury dealership agreed to have the ceremony on their showroom floor.

The Mustang motif was present throughout the ceremony. His and hers Mustangs flanked the alter, and Mustang was etched into their wedding bands. Cox put on display his impressive collection of Mustang memorabilia, and eight Mustangs plus a classic Shelby lined up outside to welcome the newlyweds. There was even a special gift; a book called “The Mustang Dynasty” signed with a personal note from Chairman of Ford himself, Bill Ford Jr. The only gift we could have thought of that would have been better would have been a brand new Mustang GT.

Behind the wheel of his Subaru WRX, Ken Block managed to win the 100 Acre Woods Rally four consecutive times. Now though, Ken Block races for Ford behind the wheel of their flagship Fiesta Rally Car. The start of his first season driving for the Blue Oval was a bit off-putting, with a broken suspension mounting bolt failing in the seventh stage. This earned him a DNF, but back on familiar ground, Block looks to earn back some face.

This video from Monster World Rally shows Block and navigator Alex Gelsomino getting in their practice runs for the 100 Acre Wood rally.

Unlike the American Rally season opener in Atlanta, Michigan, called Sno*Drift, the 100 Acre Wood Rally should be devoid of snow and cool temperatures. The race takes place in Salem, Missouri, and is named after the home of children’s book character Winnie the Pooh. It sits near the edge of the Ozark Mountains, with plenty of twists, turns, ups, downs, and tight corners.

The video makes us admire Mr. Block’s skills behind the wheel all the more. Aside from the hazard posed by lots of wet leaves, there are narrow bridges and lots of trees to be on the look out for as well. Block certainly can handle the Fiesta; the question now it seems, is can the Fiesta handle Ken Block?

One thing you rarely see screaming down the dragstrip is a full size truck that was built for screaming up dirt hills. Hennessey Performance Engineering decided they would rather see this truck on the strip than on the dirt. They took the new Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, changed it up a little and sent it down the track.

The full story and more photos are available at Worldcarfans.com. This truck is available to purchase from Hennessey Performance.

Hennessey Performance Engineering, which is based out of Texas, was able to take this truck down the quarter mile in 14.09 seconds at 97 mph. This was achieved by taking the 5.4 liter V8 engine up to 501 hp and 520 foot-pounds of torque. If your wondering how they got the power up that high, it started by installing a Whipple supercharger, a tune, and a K&N intake.

If you would like to get your hands on one of these high powered off-road vehicles that were adjusted for the strip, you’re in luck, because 100 of these Hennesssey VelociRaptor 500s will be produced this year – and you can get one for about $15,000 over the factory Raptor. Check out the video below.

Edelbrock has just released their E-Force Supercharger System for the 2010 Mustangs equipped with the 4.6L V8. This supercharger features the Eaton Twin Vortices Series Gen VI rotor assembly. This kit includes everything you need to bolt it onto a 4.6L Mustang.

Official Release

Edelbrock E-Force Supercharger System for 2010 Ford Mustang 4.6L

TORRANCE, CA – Edelbrock is excited to announce the release of their E-Force Supercharger system for 2010 Ford Mustangs equipped with a 4.6L 3V (#1582). Based in large part on the existing supercharger for ’05-’09 Mustangs, this new kit will allow the 2010 Mustang to produce an impressive 466 HP and 439 ft/lbs of torque with very low boost. This design is engineered and manufactured by Edelbrock and features an Eaton® Twin Vortices Series (TVS®) GEN VI rotor assembly – the same internals used on the new Corvette ZR-1.

The supercharger assembly is integrated into Edelbrock’s unique intake manifold for a truly seamless design with minimal components. The intake features 15″ long runners for maximum low-end torque and an integrated bypass valve that helps reduce parasitic loss under light throttle, which improves mileage potential. Keeping the air cool is a 110 square inch, high capacity, air to water intercooler – the largest of its kind available on the market today – and a full face low temp heat exchanger. A new injection molded high-flow air-box cover keeps the 2010 50-state emissions legal (E.O.# D-215-72). The assembly is finished with a matching set of coil covers uniquely styled to give your engine compartment a custom look.

This complete Edelbrock E-Force supercharger kit includes everything you need to bolt it on under the hood of a 2010 Mustang 4.6L 3V, including supercharger/manifold assembly, air inlet with 85mm throttle body, injection molded air-box cover, fuel injectors, air-to-water intercooler, coil covers and handheld flash programmer to properly tune the factory ECU for the added power. Edelbrock offers an optional 5-Year/60,000 mile warranty.

The supercharger is also available as a competition kit #1587. Intended for purpose built race cars, the competition kit is supplied with only essential components and does not include the programmer, injectors, coil covers or primary pulley. Four pulley sizes are available, in diameters from 3.50″ to 2.75″ depending on the desired boost level, as well as a competition air intake system that eliminates the stock air box for improved air flow. Please note that these parts are only intended for use with the competition kit, and will void the E.O. certification of the #1582 street-legal kit.

• More horsepower per psi than any other Mustang system on the market
• 2300cc (140 cubic inch) Eaton® TVS® GEN VI rotor assembly
• Unique intake manifold design with 15″ long runners for increased low-end torque
• 100,000 mile self-contained oiling system

As an NMRA racing fan one of my favorite classes to watch is the “10 inch Tire freak show,” formally known as the Super Street Outlaw class. Among some of the baddest small-tire Mustangs that compete in that class, one of the most successfull underdogs with a 450 cubic inch Small Block nitrous combo has been Sam Vincent. With numerous mid/high 7 second passes under his bel,t there’s no doubt that he’s getting it done with such a small tire, but some breaking news came in this week when we learned that Sam was making the switch to drag radials for an upcoming race in Georgia.

Sam relayed this info to Justin Pennington who made a Yellowbullet post about it.

In hopes of putting in a solid effort towards bringing home the large payout the ORTC race has, ($20,000) Sam has been doing lots of testing. He’s going to be giving the radials a try to see if they’re faster, stating he’s simply going to see what will give him the best chance to win the big race. The ORTC race in Georgia won’t be a quarter mile show, (1/8 mile) which may favor the nitrous combinations due to their ability to do a bit better than the turbo and blower cars in the first half of the track. Sam even entertained the idea of possibly participating in other drag radial events if things go well.

Photo: Sam Vincent

While it’s still uncertain if Sam’s car will be wearing radials or slicks, one thing is for sure and that’s that he will be there amongst the best in competition – rumor has it that this may be one of the biggest radial Vs. slick car races of the year, so you won’t want to miss it. Look for Sam’s notchback to put down some impressive times soon, as always we wish him a successful season in the NMRA as well as any other events he partakes in. Also check back to Dragzine for the ORTC coverage to start Thursday.

The “One Ford” strategy implemented by the Blue Oval several years ago had on major goal. Ford wants to tie together all of its cars from different markets, making it easier to manufacture parts and design vehicles and saving lots of money in the long run. That in turn meant that Ford’s bevy of difference performance vehicles would start drawing from the same parts bin.

Last week we asked what Ford would do with its diverse performance vehicle collection. Automobile Magazine got a chance to sit down with new performance chief John Capito, and he seemed to hint the groups would continue to live alongside each other.

Picture: Ford

More importantly though, Capito hinted that the Focus RS might actually make it to America. Blue Oval fans have been clamoring for such a move for a while now, and while Capito didn’t outright announce it, he did say “When you see the global vehicle lines, they offer the opportunity of global performance vehicles. The two generations of Focus we’ve had so far [internationally] were great bases for performance vehicles. The new Focus is the same, so there’s no reason if there’s one in Europe, it wouldn’t be here.”

That is as close to a “yes” as we have heard so far. Capito also mentioned that while the RS line has a strong following in America already, it is unlikely to replace the SVT line of vehicles (which right now has just the Raptor). So will the Focus RS remain an RS, or will it be morphed into an SVT? Capito also hinted that they were unlikely to over-saturate the market with too many RS vehicles, like an RS Fiesta as well as Focus. We should hear more about this in the coming months so stay tuned.
