We already know that the Ford Focus RS is one of the coolest compact cars out there. We also know that it is one of the coolest cars we can’t get here in America (at least not yet). What we don’t know, but would really like to find out, is how a Ford dealership in Mexico managed to import one of these hatches.

This eBay listing, which ended on February 2nd, listed a Focus RS for sale for the princely sum of $45,000. That's a lot of money for a Focus!

Perhaps even more surprising is that the car sold for that sum. What kind of Focus does $45,000 get you? How about a 5-cylinder (yes, five) 300 horsepower turbocharged hatch painted in an outrageous Electric Green paint scheme. This front-wheel drive hatch is built in Germany, and was apparently imported by Ford of Mexico, and somehow wound up in the hands of a Mexican dealership.

Now since this is a Euro-only car, importing and registering it requires the certifications three government agencies. That means whoever bought this Focus has to convince US Customs, the Department of Transportation, and the Environmental Protection Agency that this car is not a threat to the driver, other drivers, or the environment. Sounds like a lot of hassle, but then again, this is probably one of just a handful of Focus RS here in the states. The rest of us will just have to wait for Ford to finally decide to import the Focus RS to dealerships.
