Last month, the recently renamed (to an old moniker) Shelby American lifted the veil on another tribute to the past, the GT-350. With Ford’s new 5.0 V8 under the hood, a six-speed transmission, and a supercharger good for over 500 horsepower, the GT-350 is a real contender with a hefty price of over $65,000.

Following on the heels of the 2011 Mustang GT, the Mustang News reported that the GT-350 will pace the NASCAR Sprint Cup Race in Las Vegas on February 28th.

This is a natural place for the GT-350 to make its race track debut (albeit as a pace car). Shelby American is based in Las Vegas, and the car was developed there. Last Sunday, Ford put the Mustang GT out to pace the Daytona 500, the first time a Ford has paced the Daytona 500 since 1970. The 2011 Mustang GT has a 412 horsepower 5.0 V8 engine, and will give the Camaro SS a run for its money - and this GT-350 will be even further ahead of those two with it's 500+ horsepower. But it is more than just a fancy blower.

The Shelby GT-350 has a Ford Racing suspension, Baer brake system upgrade, Borla exhaust, and a lot more. It is a lot of car, and is more expensive than the current GT500 by about a Ford Focus (2011 GT500 pricing hasn’t been released yet). The GT-350 also gets a Shelby bodykit, center exhaust, and will only be available in White with Guardsmen Blue stripes.
