After outselling the Camaro and recording the best sales month of 2011 in June, Mustang sales have slumped for the third straight month. Today Ford released the latest sales figures for September, and dealers managed to move only 5,054 Mustangs off their lots. The sales represent more than an 11 percent drop compared to the previous month, and the number is a decrease of more than 12 percent compared to sales of Mustangs in September of last year.

Interestingly, Ford sales as a whole continue to remain strong. The company’s utility vehicles saw a 35 percent increase in sales compared to last year, and trucks were up 15 percent. The Fusion and and Fiesta also had excellent months, improving 23 and 30 percent respectively versus last year. Ford’s overall sales totaled 175,199 for September, a nine percent increase compared to 2010.
