Drew Skillman Ford Mustang Cobra Jet

The Ford Mustang Cobra Jet continued its winning ways by dominating the NHRA and ADRL Supercar Showdown races this past weekend. The victories in each series were historic in their own ways, with the Cobra Jet winning both Stock and Super Stock classes at the NHRA Nationals in Atlanta and maintaining a perfect 3-0 record in ADRL’s Supercar Showdown.

Winning both of the NHRA events was Drew Skillman, whose father and grandfather both race Cobra Jets in the NHRA and ADRL. The 24 year-old made history by becoming the first person in an NHRA event to double up in his first National Event win and the youngest person to double up in the Stock and Super Stock classes. Skillman is one of only two people to have a double win with the same make/model car, and is only the 11th person in the NHRA to have a double win in any combination of classes. He drove his 2010/2012 Cobra Jets through a combined 11 rounds of competition (five in SS, 6 in stock) that included wins over two late model Dodge Challengers.

In the ADRL Supercar Showdown, Chris Holbrook (son of local hero and Ford drag racing pioneer Carl Holbrook) made it three wins in a row for the Cobra Jet.  The win is Holbrook’s first in the series, with Bo Butner winning the first two events.
