2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302S

Last week we told you about production of the 2013 Mustang Boss 302S getting underway at Watson Engineering in Taylor, MI. At that time we assumed that deliveries to customers would still be a few weeks away, but apparently several of the turn-key race cars were already on trucks being shipped out to their customers. How do we know this? Our good friends at Galpin Ford in Van Nuys, CA received their allotment of three cars this week and were kind enough to invite us over to see one before its lucky new owner took it home for good.

From the outside the 2013 Boss 302S looks fairly similar to its road-going siblings, featuring the same 1970s-inspired graphics. However, the more aggressive front splitter, tow hooks and large rear wing give away the car’s true purpose. The differences are minimal under the hood as well, with the same 5.0-liter V8 squeezed in between the fenders. It takes a closer inspect to see the remote reservoirs for the adjustable shocks and the caster/camber plates below the shock towers. The difference between race and road car is more apparent inside, with the interior fully stripped and fitted with a single Recaro bucket seat, full roll cage, Sparco race wheel, fire extinguisher and more.

Just fifty Boss 302S race cars will be produced for 2013 – this particular example is number five – available in either Performance White or School Bus Yellow and sanctioned for racing in the SCCA World Challenge GTS class, NASA’s American Iron class and other racing series.
