Parnelli Jones

Unlike today’s racers that specialize in a particular series or style of racing, the legendary Parnelli Jones drove (and won) in all types of race cars. With an insatiable competitive spirit Jones has taken the checkered flag everywhere from Indy to Baja and is known for wringing the absolute most out of whatever he’s driving. Of course, he’s also a huge part of the Ford Mustang’s history, capturing five of eleven wins in the Bud Moore No. 15 “School Bus Orange” Boss 302 to win the 1970 Trans-Am Championship.

As part of the video series countdown to the Mustang’s 50th anniversary, Ford recently turned their cameras on Jones who recounts how he got into road racing and eventually won the championship in 1970. Parnelli also tells a fantastic story about how he won the last race of the 1970 season at Riverside, despite having a damaged Mustang that wouldn’t turn.
