Ford Mustang Cobra Jet

The second round of the Ford Racing Cobra Jet was held this past weekend at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, with all 2008-2014 Cobra Jet owners invited to attend. An amazing 29 Cobra Jets showed up to compete in two heads-up classes and a competition index class in preparation for the upcoming NHRA Nationals in Indianapolis the following weekend.

“Since 2011 the Cobra Jet Showdown has been a huge success and we are happy to have the opportunity with NMCA to bring even more Cobra Jet owners together for 2013.  The Cobra Jet Showdown gives all owners the opportunity to experience their Cobra Jets and interact with the community of fellow owners and Ford Racing staff,” said Jesse Kershaw, Drag Racing Competition Manager, Ford Racing Performance Group. “It’s a unique opportunity that all Cobra Jet owners should participate in and an excellent show for all fans of production based racing.”

Ohio native Ron Matchum won the CIC Class, which allows different class Cobra Jets to race in a dial-in format. In the final, Matchum’s .009 reaction time combined with a 8.78 et on a  9.85 dial in was enough to beat west coast Cobra Jet hitter John Calvert.

P.B. Candies defeated Ray Skillman in the Cobra Jet Super Stock class while flirting with the 7 second zone n his beautiful 2010 Cobra Jet. His 8.000 et @ 171.64 mph was enough to win against Skillman in the final. The Showdown is a test session for the NHRA US Nationals, and these two drivers are expected to be favorites to win class eliminations on Thursday.

In the Top Stock class, Mike Harris won in an all 2013 Cobra Jet heads-up run against Chris Holbrook. Harris typically runs his car in NMRA’s Renegade class and has bounced back from a bone-jarring accident last year after taking delivery of his Cobra Jet. Harris ran consistent 8.70 ets in the rounds prior to the finals against Holbrook. In the finals, Harris left first with a .011 reaction time and posted an 8.75 et @ 154 mph.
