  The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the most prominent automotive events of the year, taking place on the grounds of the Goodwood House in West Sussex, England every summer. The highlight of the event is the hill climb up the property’s 1.16 mile driveway, with everything from classics to modern supercars  participating. The Mustang historically hasn’t had much of a presence at the event, but that changed a few years ago when Ford brought out the then-new 2013 Shelby GT500 to show the Europeans what a modern muscle car looked and sounded like.
  Just a couple short years later the Mustang is back at Goodwood for 2014, this time in the form of the all new 2015 Mustang. Undoubtedly this was the first time for many of the spectators seeing the car in person, and we have to imagine they enjoyed seeing the Race Red pony car tear up the course. If the initial batch of European pre-orders are anything to go by, the 2015 Mustang will be a huge hit across the pond.

2015 Ford Mustang new airbag

  A new airbag design debuting on the 2015 Ford Mustang raises the bar for passenger safety by providing inflatable restraint protection in a smaller, lighter package that also enables a roomier interior for more comfort.
  The new airbag will be introduced later this year as part of a standard comprehensive safety system that includes a more robust package of sensors, safety belt anchor pretensioners, improved exterior lighting and double the total number of airbags on the all-new Mustang.
 In the initial application of this technology, an inflatable plastic bladder is integrated into the glove box door and provides front passenger knee protection similar to a conventional knee airbag mounted under the instrument panel. Other applications for this unique and patented technology – which allows airbags to be placed in new locations inside the vehicle and provides more freedom to vehicle designers – are being considered.
  “We provide a high level of safety, quality and design for our customers and their passengers,” said Sean West, Ford restraints manager. “With this innovative airbag design, we have developed technology that provides protection for vehicle occupants while also reducing weight and enabling greater design flexibility.”
To make the new knee airbag possible, Ford engineers developed and tested innovative materials and construction techniques. Unlike a traditional fabric airbag, the new system consists of a pliable, injection-molded plastic bladder sandwiched between the inner and outer glove box door panels. After an applicable vehicle impact is detected by the crash sensor system and classified, an inflator fills the bladder, extending the entire glove box outer door panel toward the front passenger’s legs. Once deployed, the outer door helps to provide cushioning in a manner similar to a traditional knee airbag.
  Since the glove box-integrated airbag extends straight out from the instrument panel, it doesn’t have to travel as far as a conventional airbag, which deploys toward the floor before curving upward. Since the glovebox door distributes the impact load over a larger area than a traditional airbag, it is able to operate at a lower inflation pressure.
  The resulting design is 65 percent lighter with an inflator that is approximately 75 percent smaller than a conventional knee airbag inflator, while providing comparable protection to the passenger. The improved packaging of the system is more discreet, with no visible seams or airbag cover. This has given designers more flexibility to move the dashboard closer to the windshield, enhancing the feeling of roominess in the cabin.
  In developing the new Mustang passenger knee airbag, Ford has been granted 15 U.S. patents already, with more patents filed.
The active glove box knee airbag is among a number of technology features on the all-new Mustang, including:

  • Eight airbags, twice as many as the current model. Along with the glove box knee airbag for front passenger, the new Mustang fastback and convertible have driver and passenger front and seat-mounted side airbags, as well as a driver knee airbag. The fastback adds two side curtain airbags, while the convertible gets a seat-mounted head airbag on each side
  •   Additional crash sensors are located on the front, sides and center of the car to control the deployment of airbags and safety belt pretensioners. The new Mustang now has two front sensors – two per side – and a roll rate sensor in the restraint control module, all of which contribute to a more adaptive safety system to protect occupants in different types of crashes
  • Also new to Mustang are safety belt pretensioners added to the belt anchor side that further tighten the belt around front seat occupants, keeping them in a more secure spot early in the event of a crash
  •   Tri-bar signature lighting and high-intensity-discharge headlamps for improved visibility of the road ahead during nighttime driving
  • Industry-exclusive Ford MyKey® allows parents to limit top speed and audio system volume, and to set limits to prevent the disabling of driver-assist features

“The new Mustang has increased ability to adapt safety systems to a variety of potential situations,” said Jeff Rupp, Mustang safety systems manager. “For example, we’ve added new anchor-side safety belt pretensioning capability and a steering column that can adapt stiffness properties.”

2015 Ford Mustang online configurator
 2015 Ford Mustang order guide was leaked online, providing more details about the various packages and options that will be available once the car goes on sale later this year. The format of the order guide isn’t the easiest to navigate, though, and it’s hard to visualize what your dream Mustang will actually look like. Thankfully that’s what online configurators are for, and pony car fans will be happy to know that Ford has just launched a new feature that will allow you to build and price your very own 2015 Mustang.
 While the new configurator still doesn’t provide important details and specifications like horsepower and torque, it will allow you to pick between the various models, choose packages and options, and easily figure out pricing for whatever combination you’ve selected.

50 Years Appearance Package

  If you aren’t able to get your hands on one of the 1,964 50 Year Limited Edition Mustangs, it looks like you’ll still be able to celebrate five decades of the pony car on the “standard” 2015 Mustang. A quick look at the recently launched 2015 Mustang configurator reveals that a “50 Years Appearance Package” will be available for EcoBoost and GT Mustangs equipped in premium trim including both fastback and convertible models.
 The 50 Years Appearance Package will include:

  • 19″ x 8.5″ Luster Nickel Aluminum Wheels
  • Unique 50 Years Upper Grille
  • Unique Rear Gas Cap Badge
  • Unique Floor Mats
  • Unique Seat Inserts and Door Trim

The price of the 50 Years Appearance package is listed at $1,595.

 May month opened up the order banks for the 2015 Mustang and gave us a small tidbit of information regarding pricing, stating that the V6 model would start at $24,425 including destination and delivery. That’s $1,090 jump compared to 2014 pricing, and we estimated that the GT model would start around $33,000 and the EcoBoost to split the difference.

 We can now say for sure, as Ford has released the full pricing structure for the 2015 Mustang on their online configuration. We were spot on with the GT, although the EcoBoost comes in lower than we expected. Here are the prices for each model, with the $825 destination and delivery charge included:

  • V6: $24,425
  • V6 Convertible: $29,925
  • EcoBoost: $25,995
  • EcoBoost Premium: $29,995
  • EcoBoost Premium Convertible: $35,495
  • GT: $32,995
  • GT Premium: $36,925
  • GT Premium Convertible: $42,425

 Ford also included prices for the various options. Picking the 6-speed automatic transmission will set you back $1,195, and opting for the 50 Years Appearance Package adds up to $1,595. The EcoBoost Peformance Package will cost $1,995, while the GT Performance Package is an extra $2,495. Two of the colors will cost additional as well – Triple Yellow adds $495 while Ruby Red is $395.

Ford Motor Company announced that Alan Mulally has decided to retire from the company July 1, and Mark Fields will be named Ford president and chief executive officer and elected as a member of the company’s board of directors.

 “From the first day we discussed Ford’s transformation eight years ago, Alan and I agreed that developing the next generation of leaders and ensuring an orderly CEO succession were among our highest priorities,” Executive Chairman Bill Ford said. “Mark has transformed several of our operations around the world into much stronger businesses during his 25 years at Ford. Now, Mark is ready to lead our company into the future as CEO.”

Mulally, 68, is retiring after nearly eight years leading Ford and capping a remarkable 45-year career. Mulally has led Ford’s transformation and strengthened its position as one of the world’s leading global automakers. Under Mulally and the company’s One Ford plan for profitable growth, Ford has achieved 19 consecutive quarters of profitability, developed the strongest product lineup in Ford’s history and embarked upon the company’s most ambitious global expansion in the past half century.

 “Alan deservedly will be long remembered for engineering one of the most successful business turnarounds in history,” Bill Ford said. “Under Alan’s leadership, Ford not only survived the global economic crisis, it emerged as one of the world’s strongest auto companies. We always will be grateful to Alan for his leadership, compelling vision and for fostering a culture of working together that will serve our company for decades to come.”
The transition in July is approximately six months earlier than previously anticipated, following Mulally’s recommendation to accelerate the timetable based on the readiness of Ford’s leadership team.

 “Alan and I feel strongly that Mark and the entire leadership team are absolutely ready to lead Ford forward, and now is the time to begin the transition,” said Bill Ford, who recruited Mulally from Boeing in 2006.
Fields, 53, was named Ford’s chief operating officer in December 2012. He has been leading all of Ford’s global business operations and most skill teams, including product development, manufacturing, purchasing, and marketing, sales and service.
Fields’ role as COO has included leading the company’s weekly Business Plan Review meeting, which Mulally established to track the progress of the One Ford plan and to monitor the global business and competitive environment. The Thursday meetings are credited with driving a reliable and transparent process for running Ford’s global operations and enabling Ford’s senior leadership to work closely together and act decisively on its plan.

 Before serving as COO, Fields served as executive vice president and president – The Americas since October 2005. There, he led the transformation of Ford’s North American business – turning it from record losses several years ago to record profits in each of the last four years. Earlier, Fields guided the product-led transformation of Ford’s European operations and formerly held European luxury brands, as well as the relaunch of Ford’s independent operations in Argentina and a major restructuring and product renaissance at Mazda.
Mulally thanked the Ford team for their many contributions and accomplishments.

 “It has been an honor to serve and contribute to creating a viable, profitably growing company for the good of everyone associated with the Ford Motor Company,” Mulally said. “By working together with all of our stakeholders around the world, we now are accelerating Henry Ford’s original vision to open the highways to all mankind.

 “Ford’s future is so bright, and Mark – supported by an experienced and dedicated senior leadership team – is absolutely the right leader to continue to deliver on our compelling vision,” Mulally added.
Fields underscored his commitment to the One Ford plan, including building on the company’s unprecedented global introduction of new products, innovations and excellence.
“It is a true honor to lead this great company and this talented team into the future,” Fields said. “Under Alan’s leadership, we have seen the power of One Ford and what a culture of positive leadership and working together can accomplish. My commitment is to build on that success by accelerating our pace of progress. NFS Mustang Auction

 A custom 2013 Ford Mustang GT that starred in the blockbuster movie “Need for Speed” was sold by Ford Motor Company for $300,000 on Saturday at Barrett-Jackson Auction Company’s West Palm Beach event.

 John Felice, vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service, drove the spectacular Mustang onto the big stage. After spirited bidding that electrified the block, Dave Flynn of Columbiana, Ohio, won the factory-special Mustang. Auctioned at no reserve, proceeds will benefit Henry Ford Health System, the nonprofit founded by Henry Ford to support the Edith and Benson Ford Heart and Vascular Institute.

 “Everyone has a Mustang story, and the new owner of this movie car now has one that is particularly special,” says Steve Ling, North America car marketing manager for Ford. “Snagging such a high-profile car right now – 50 years after the birth of America’s first pony car – is something to be cherished. And helping such an important cause makes the sale even more memorable.”

 Founded in 1915, Henry Ford Health System is one of the nation’s leading comprehensive, integrated health systems. It provides health insurance and healthcare delivery, including acute, specialty, primary and preventive-care services, backed by excellence in research and education.

 “Watching the car cross the block in support of Henry Ford Health System was very rewarding,” says Sandy Hudson, chief development officer for the organization. “Dave Flynn did much more than just purchase a new car. His purchase will help so many people get access to healthcare.”

 The “Need for Speed” Mustang was used in filming and was displayed at all promotional stops for the movie. It boasts a custom-designed, wide body rolling on unique, Forgiato 22-inch alloy wheels. Other design elements include an enlarged lower grille with new air intakes, extended rocker panels, a twin-snorkel hood and low-profile mirrors. With a powerful V8 engine, the Mustang is finished in silver paint with Kona Blue racing stripes.


 The 2015 50 Year Limited Edition model isn’t the only Mustang we saw on display at the during the press days  at the New York Auto Show this week, as Saleen made the cross-country trek to show off their lineup as well. Featured prominently in the company’s booth is this gorgeous 302 SC Black Label Mustang Speedster painted in an eye-catching Speedlab Yellow.
The Black Label is Saleen’s most heavily optioned Mustang in their lineup and is the “epitome of Saleen styling and performance in one package,” according to the company. The car comes with a full Saleen body kit, 20-inch wheels, complete suspension upgrade, 14-inch brakes, custom interior with leather and Alcantara two-tone Chevron seats and plenty more. This particular model on display is the supercharged version putting out 625 horsepower.











50 Years of Ford Mustang evolution

 April 17, 2014 – marks the exact fifty year anniversary of the Ford Mustang, and the pony car’s birthday celebrations are happening all around the world. Ford unveiled the 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition at the New York Auto Show, the official anniversary events are happening simultaneously in Charlotte and Las Vegas, and enthusiasts are gathering for their own celebrations all across the globe. To commemorate the occasion Ford has also uploaded a new video showing just how the Mustang has evolved over the past fifty years. The clip demonstrates the design changes from 1965 to 1967, 1969, 2005, 2013 and 2015.
