According to the NHTSA, Ford has issued a recall for several models including the 2012-2013 Mustang for a problem with the reverse gear. Affecting models with the automatic transmission only, the recall states that the vehicles “may have a transmission range sensor (TRS) that was calibrated out of specification for reverse gear. The result is that the transmission may not go into reverse or the backup lights may not illuminate. Ford says that they will be notifying customers of affected vehicles, with the recall expected to begin in late June. …

The Boss 302 has taken much of the accolades for the Mustang family this past year, garnering awards from MotorWeek, Hagerty, Cars.com, Autobytel.com, Ward’s, Car & Driver and Automobile Magazine. The standard Mustang hasn’t been forgotten though. The Ford Mustang continues to garner awards from the automotive press, the latest of which comes from MSN Autos who named the 2012 Mustang GT as the car with the “best bang for the buck”. With a base price of $29,310 and 412 horsepower, the Mustang GT has a $/HP ratio of 71.14, beating out the likes of the Chevrolet Camaro SS ($74.77 /HP), Dodge Challenger R/T ($79.77/HP), Dodge Charger R/T ($81.07 /hp) and more.

Today Car and Driver announced their annual 10 Best list, and to no surprise the 2012 Ford Mustang was included on the list. Car and Driver specifically singled out the GT and Boss 302 models, praising Ford’s engineers for creating “a new standard” for muscle cars. The 2012 Mustang was one of three American cars on the list, the other two being the Ford Focus and Cadillac CTS-V, and the only muscle/pony car to be selected. Last month Ford launched a new online customizer for the 2012 Mustang, allowing users to create their own personalized Mustang from the V6 to the Boss 302 to the Shelby GT500. The web site allows anything from body kits to wheels to performance parts to be added on, in addition to providing various backgrounds and angles for people to check out their designs. Users can also post their custom Mustangs to Facebook, and a “battle mode” lets people vote on their favorite designs.
