2014 Ford Mustang GT Need for Speed

A custom 2014 Ford Mustang GT starring in the new movie, “Need for Speed”, will be auctioned off for charity by Ford Motor Company at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction on April 12. Building on the excitement of the movie, premiering March 14, this Mustang will be offered at no reserve, with proceeds benefiting the Henry Ford Health System, a not-for-profit group founded by Henry Ford to improve the health and well-being of a diverse community.

“Need for Speed”
is the latest of more than 3,200 film and television appearances for Mustang over the past 50 years. The Mustang being auctioned is one of a handful developed purely for the movie to appear on the silver screen and at promotional stops.

The movie car boasts a custom-designed wide body rolling on unique Forgiato 22-inch alloy wheels. Other design elements include an enlarged lower grille with new air intakes, extended rocker panels, a twin-snorkel hood and low-profile mirrors. The visual sizzle is amplified by custom silver paint with Kona Blue racing stripes and angel-eye fog lamps in the grille.

“Mustang was cast in a leading role of the movie with screen time equal to many of the actors,” said Steve Ling, North America car marketing manager for Ford. “Director Scott Waugh challenged our team to give this central character enough personality and American masculinity to take on some of the world’s most exotic cars, just like in the popular Electronic Arts video game that inspired the movie.

“The new owner of this particular Mustang will take home a rare vehicle, and their bid will increase access to critical health care services.”

Founded in 1915, the Henry Ford Health System is one of the nation’s leading comprehensive, integrated health systems. It provides health insurance and health-care delivery, including acute-, specialty-, primary- and preventive-care services, backed by excellence in research and education. Additional information is available at http://www.henryford.com.

“Need for Speed” is one of the most successful racing video game franchises in the world, with more than 140 million games sold since the original edition debuted 20 years ago. The Dreamworks Studios film stars Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), Dominic Cooper (“Captain America”), Imogen Poots (“Fright Night”) and Michael Keaton (“Batman”), and is directed by Waugh (“Act of Valor”).

Beyond the South Florida Fairgrounds auction stage, Ford will offer ride-and-drive and hot-lap experiences. The public can sample Ford’s stable of 2014 vehicles, as well as hot-lap experiences in the Shelby GT500, Focus ST and Fiesta ST. In addition, Ford is showing the all-new 2015 Mustang and 2015 F-150 in South Florida for the first time.

Saleen unveils 30th Anniversary SA-30 Mustang

Monday, November 25th, 2013
Saleen SA-30 Mustang

Marking thirty years of Steve Saleen creating high performance Mustangs, Saleen Automotive today unveiled the new SA-30 Mustang. A total of ten SA-30 Mustangs will be produced, in keeping with the limited edition status of the company’s anniversary models.

The Saleen SA-30 Mustang exterior draws inspiration from the company’s motorsports roots. With thirty years marking the pearl anniversary, the SA-30 Mustang will be available in a single theme consisting of a custom ‘Tire Smoke’ pearl white Saleen paint with Speedlab yellow and black painted components, complimented by color-matched pearl white Saleen wheels.

The interior treatment has been completely redesigned for the Saleen SA-30 Mustang. In addition to the special edition SA-30 insignia on the serialized dash plaque, interior badging and SA-30 carpeting; the seating has been completely refreshed with a black leather and white perforated alcantara treatment that brings the 30th Anniversary livery to the drivers’ cabin as well. An optional complete interior reconfiguration in the form of a 2-seater setup, created by completely removing the rear seat and rear deck, then the fabrication creates a true racecar type interior transformation with custom formed panels to separate the cabin from the trunk area. Adding to the structure while improving handling is a race style cross-brace that ties in to the rear shock towers. Following the fabrication, Saleen crafts tailor-made leather to give a final fit and finish to the ‘rear seat delete’ option.

“When we began exploring some new Saleen styling that we wanted to debut with the SA-30 vehicles, we knew that we wanted something that spoke of our ‘Born of Racing’ heritage and a rear seat delete came as a natural choice for the SA-30”, said Sean Smith, Design Director. “Through the fastback design and we were able to add a lot of refinement to the interior while still retaining the racecar environment.”

The distinct SA-30 options are not only prepared for the interior but also projects outward in a familiar way. Saleen SA-30 302 model will also have a Saleen panoramic roof available option with a technological advancement, Saleen Frost-Touch Glass. Debuting on the SA-30 302 Mustang, the Saleen Frost-Touch Glass provides that ability to have a complete panoramic glass roof while giving the option to change it from translucent to opaque with the touch of a button. This technology is integrated into the panoramic roof and rear window glass to allow the user to diffuse the light in both areas independently. To quickly bring this technology to market for the SA-30 302, Saleen worked closely with Southern California based Glass Apps, LLC in a strategic partnership between the two firms.

“With past models, the panoramic glass roof was a fantastic compliment to any Saleen vehicle, but our #1 request was to develop a way to shade the glass without having to apply standard tint or add interior hardware”, said Sven Etzelsberger, VP of Engineering. “We began working with this technology some time ago and it has come to the point where we are able to completely frost the rear window to the panoramic glass roof almost instantaneous.”

Using suspended particle technology, the Saleen Frost-Touch Glass uses an electric current to energize and align otherwise randomly placed particles. When the Rear Window and the Panoramic Glass roof are in frost mode the level of solar transmission is reduced by 40 percent, and the amount of UV protection is increased by 98%.

Providing the Speed portion of the Speed | Science | Style trifecta is a well-integrated Saleen supercharged package adorning each of the SA-30 power plants. Horsepower tops out at 625HP with the SA-30 Mustang.

Providing grip and traction assistance is the Saleen suspension package that carries over from the current Saleen production Mustang. And stopping power is on demand with the yellow powder-coated Saleen big brake kits all as standard equipment for the SA-30 Mustang.

APR Performance 2013 Ford Mustang

Aerodynamics specialists APR Performance have released a new rendering of a custom widebody 2013 Ford Mustang that will make its debut at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas next month. The custom Mustang will feature a 10-piece body kit, which will widen the fenders by a modest two inches on each side, available as a complete package from APR. The SEMA show car will also boast other pieces from the APR not part of the kit including a carbon fiber front splitter, GT-250 rear wing and a rear diffuser. The Mustang will also feature a ProCharger centrifugal supercharger system, KW coilover suspension system, Stoptech brakes, MagnaFlow exhaust system and Sparco race seats.

This isn’t the first time that the APR Performance has developed a widebody kit for the Ford Mustang, as the company created a similar package for the first generation S197 Mustang back in 2008.

2012 Shelby GT350

Earlier this month Shelby announced that they would be auctioning off the very first GT350 built for 2012 at Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas, and now the results are in. After crossing the block the blue convertible had found a new owner for the sum of $137,500.

Previously owned by Carroll Shelby himself, this particular GT350 was one of the actual cars that debuted at the Chicago Auto Show and was used for the company’s promotional materials. It boasts the optional 624 horsepower polished Whipple supercharger system as well as Shelby’s widebody package that allows for wider Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires at all four corners.

“We carefully documented the build of this car,” said Shelby American Vice President of Production Gary Davis. “Carroll was very excited about the new wide body option, so that was included on this car. It’s the first 2012 GT350 serial number from our anniversary year. It is a very special car.”

2014 Mustang Cobra Jet

A very unique 2014 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet was auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas this weekend, raising $200,000 for charity. The turn-key race car, which has a special serial number of 2014BJMSCJXX1, is a prototype and features a Fiery Orange satin exterior with dark grey reflective Cobra Jet graphics. The car is also race-ready, with the Cobra Jet-spec supercharged 5.0-liter V8, T4 racing transmission, 9-inch rear end, 3-link rear suspension, wheelie bar, Recaro race seats, certified safety cage and more.

The winning bidder of the one-off Cobra Jet isn’t just going home with the car, though. Training at Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School, a tour of Ford Product Development and the Ford Design Studios with Mustang Chief Engineer Dave Pericak, as well as a video of the vehicle build, testing and auction at Barrett-Jackson was also included as part of the package.

Like all of the special Mustangs Ford auctions off at Barrett-Jackson, 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to charity. For this particular car, the $200,000 raised will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to help support those living with this disabling disease of the central nervous system.

Hertz Penske GT

Hertz Penske GT

This summer Hertz announced the new “Penske GT,” a modified Mustang that the rental car company was adding to their Adrenaline Collection fleet. While perhaps not an official descendent of the original 1966 Shelby GT350H and the 2006 Shelby GT-H, the Penske GT follows the same theme – a genuine rent-a-racer. The car comes with a host of Ford Racing upgrades including a cold air intake and tune, 3.55 gears, quad tip exhaust system and suspension package as well as items like the front Brembo brakes and Recaro seats as standard.

Shakedown, a part of YouTube’s Drive Network, recently got to sample the the Hertz Penske GT at the Monticello Motor Club in New York to see if the car is worthy of plunking down you hard earned dollars to drive for a day or two. Host Leo Parente offers up his thoughts on the car, as well as a few other journalists, and for the most part the consensus seems to be mostly positive. Everything from the suspension system to the exhaust note receives high praise. A common complaint? The automatic transmission, which comes in all 150 cars.

Need for Speed movie trailer.

With Getaway, which features a Shelby GT500 Super Snake, still struggling in theaters, comes the first trailer for Mustang’s next adrenaline-infused movie: Need for Speed. Based on the popular video game series, Need for Speed stars Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) as an ex-con street racer with a price on his head, hellbent on payback as he enters a cross-country race against the most exotic supercars in the world.

We’ve already told you about the movie and shown you the Mustang, so let’s get to the goods…

Need for Speed, which also stars Dakota Johnson (Ben and Kate) and Michael Keaton (Batman), comes out on March 14, 2014 and has not yet been rated. Its budget is $75,000,000.

To date, Getaway has made $10,438,586 against its $18,000,000 budget and has a horrific 3% rating on RottenTomatoes.com. Here’s to hoping NFS outperforms it.

2014 Saleen 351 Supercharged Mustang

2014 Saleen 351 Supercharged Mustang

At the Saleen Open House and Car Show this past weekend the company had many of their latest vehicles on display including the 2014 George Follmer Edition Mustang as well as the 351 Supercharged Mustang Prototype. Inside their facility, though, we spotted one of the very first production models – number three – of the 351 Supercharged Mustang. The company announced back in July that production of the new flagship model had begun, and this silver coupe is proof that it’s now well underway.
This production 351 Supercharged Mustang also provided some new insight into the technical details of the car, specifically the 351ci V8. At the time of the prototype’s unveiling back in April few details about the engine were released, but now we have some more information as well as photos. Under the hood is a variant of the Shelby GT500′s 5.4-liter V8 punched out a few more cubic inches to coincide with the 351 moniker. Instead of the factory supercharger a Kenne Bell 2.8L twin-screw blower now resides on top fitted with a 10-rib pulley, dual 75mm throttle body and mammoth air inlet. The result is 700 horsepower and 655 lb-ft torque.
One other noticeable feature of this production 351 Supercharged Mustang are the seats. Unlike the prototype, which had modified versions of the stock seats, this car uses the optional Recaro seats as a base with Alcantara and leather inserts and Saleen embroidery in the headrest.
