For the first time this year the Ford Mustang failed to outpace sales from 2011, but overall demand of the pony car remains relatively strong thanks to demand of the new 2013 model. The Ford Mustang continued its positive sales momentum in 2012 with a total of 9,046 units sold in the month of March. The number signifies the Mustang’s best sales month since May of 2010 (10,225 sold) and is higher than any month’s sales figure in all of 2011. Ford’s Mustang sales in March represents a 23% increase compared to the previous month and a 5.7% increase compared to March of 2011. Overall Ford Mustang sales are up more than 30% compared to last year at this time, 20,133 versus 15,419.

The Ford Mustang started off 2012 in the right direction with sales up 18 percent in the month of January compared to the previous year (3,736 vs 3,165). That doesn’t hold a candle compared to February sales, though, with customers purchasing 7,351 Mustangs – the largest sales month for the Mustang for the last ten months. With a couple exceptions, Ford Mustang sales haveĀ  been lower each month in 2011 than in the previous year. Ford dealers have had an exceptionally difficult time moving Mustangs off their lots in the second half of the year, and November was more of the same. Mustang sales slumped to just 3,865 during last month, a 5.6 percent decrease compared to November of 2010. After outselling the Camaro and recording the best sales month of 2011 in June, Mustang sales have slumped for the third straight month. Today Ford released the latest sales figures for September, and dealers managed to move only 5,054 Mustangs off their lots. The sales represent more than an 11 percent drop compared to the previous month, and the number is a decrease of more than 12 percent compared to sales of Mustangs in September of last year.
