The 2015 50 Year Limited Edition model isn’t the only Mustang we saw on display at the during the press days  at the New York Auto Show this week, as Saleen made the cross-country trek to show off their lineup as well. Featured prominently in the company’s booth is this gorgeous 302 SC Black Label Mustang Speedster painted in an eye-catching Speedlab Yellow.
The Black Label is Saleen’s most heavily optioned Mustang in their lineup and is the “epitome of Saleen styling and performance in one package,” according to the company. The car comes with a full Saleen body kit, 20-inch wheels, complete suspension upgrade, 14-inch brakes, custom interior with leather and Alcantara two-tone Chevron seats and plenty more. Ford mustang empire state building

Two of the world’s most recognizable icons are coming together April 16-17, as the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang convertible will be on display on the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York. The display – replicating the same feat from nearly 50 years ago – coincides with the global celebration of 50 years since Mustang debuted at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York.

“New York is one of the greatest cities in the world, and it’s the place where the Ford Mustang story began 50 years ago,” said Mark Fields, Ford chief operating officer. “We’re thrilled to be visiting the architectural landmark that has been the heart of the Manhattan skyline for 83 years with the newest generation of the car that is the soul of Ford Motor Company.”

Taking a car 86 stories above the densely populated streets of Midtown Manhattan is no simple task. No portable crane can reach the 86th floor observatory, and the spire towering above the relatively narrow deck makes helicopter delivery impossible. That leaves the elevators as the only viable option.

When the Empire State Building opened in 1931 as the world’s then-tallest building – a title it held for nearly 40 years – no one would have envisioned trying to transport a car up in the original elevators. But in 1965, a prototype Mustang convertible was sliced into three main sections plus windshield so that the sections would fit into those elevators.

“Like all good craftsmen, our team is measuring twice and cutting once to make sure we can get this Mustang up in the elevators,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer. “Like the team that did this in 1965, the current crew visited the Empire State Building before starting and took careful measurements of its new elevators and doors before cutting up the car.”

The 2015 Mustang is nearly seven inches longer and four inches wider than its ancestor, making the task of transporting it up even more challenging. Working from computer engineering data, team members preparing the display car have found just the right places to make the cuts so everything can be loaded onto custom-made racks that can be rolled into the elevators.

Once everything is uncrated and transported up 86 floors, the technicians will have less than six hours to reassemble the sections into a complete car that will be on display above Manhattan.

“It is a privilege to celebrate the new Ford Mustang, to bring together our two iconic brands, and to make new history with Ford,” said Empire State Realty Trust Chairman, President and CEO Anthony E. Malkin. “The Empire State Building and Ford Mustang are both historic innovators – today, as in the past.”

Visitors to the Empire State Building observation deck can see the new Mustang convertible from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., April 16-17.

capaldi racing boss 302

Capaldi Racing announced today the addition of two additional entries in the GTS category of the Pirelli World Challenge as they prepare for a championship run in 2014. Series veteran Brad Adams returns to the team in his crowd favorite #96 WHO DAT / DAT DOG / Voodoo Experience / Boss 302 Mustang. After a strong finish in the 2013 championship placing 9th overall, Adams brings his World Challenge experience back to the team with sights on an even better outcome for 2014.

“Last season was all new for Brad and Capaldi Racing. Although the team and Brad had worked together in the past for one off events, 2013 was the first time we put all the pieces together for a full season. The car was new, the chemistry was new, and we all knew going in that last season was the season to put our notes together and develop. Brad has been a great addition to the team and we are putting all our effort into getting him to the front in 2014.” Stated team principle Leo Capaldi.

Also returning to the series in 2014 is team driver Craig Capaldi. After contesting two events in 2013, Capaldi is back for a partial season for 2014 in the Wolverine Bronze / Capaldi Racing / Boss 302 Mustang.

“We had our share of set backs last season, we also had a lot of bright moments but bad luck bit us a few times. We have been working hard since the last race, building new cars, acquiring great team mates, and putting all of our teams experience to work. 2014 is going to be the opportunity to put it all on the table!” stated Craig Capaldi.

Adams and Capaldi will be joined by road racing veteran Tony Buffomante who recently sign with Capaldi Racing at the 15th annual Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show in Indianapolis, IN. Capaldi Racing will open the stable doors for their 2014 assault at the opening round of the Pirelli World Challenge Championship at St. Petersburg this March.

Ruby Red 2015 Ford Mustang GT

We haven’t seen too many photos of the 2015 Ford Mustang out in the wild (with the exception of Ford’s official press photos), so we were excited to see these new pictures pop up of the car being filmed in Utah. The images were snagged by local photographer Chance Hales, who had spotted the car on a trailer the day before and learned it would be used in a commercial shoot the next day. He followed up, and was able to get these great photos during the filming.

Chance says they were filming an actual commercial for Ford, although it’s tough to see what they were going for in the photos. He says that “the scene is basically a bunch of guys drive up and get out of the car dressed in aerobics suits, and they meet a group of girls in similar attire and have some sort of dance off.” What does that have to do with the Mustang? We have no idea. Hopefully we’ll find out soon.

Ford Talks 2015 Mustang Convertible Design

Ford Talks 2015 Mustang Convertible Design

Besides the discreet styling modifications, the new Mustang Convertible also gained a full fabric outer layer for the roof and a full inner headliner to enclose the structure. That’s a first for the iconic pony, whose roof also features a 10mm thick insulation pad that helps reduce cabin noise when the top is up.

More compact when compared to the previous generation Mustang, the new roof, coupled with the independent rear suspension, allows for more trunk space – 11.4 cubic feet that can hold “two golf bags even with the premium audio system.”

Folding the top into the spacious trunk is easier than ever, according to Ford, who says it has fitted the car with a new center-mounted single latch that can be operated from the driver’s seat. When using the button mounted on the center console, the roof is being raised or lowered by a new electromechanical drive system that’s twice as fast then the one fitted on the previous model. And it’s much quieter too.

Moving over to some of the engineering that’s been put into this attractive summer ride, the Mustang Convertible was built using high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels, just like the fastback model. Torsion stiffness has been increased by 13 percent for a stable platform that provides a more refined ride quality and improved handling.

“This is the best convertible we’ve ever built with a one-of-a-kind design that is instantly recognizable as Mustang and an outstanding all-around driving experience,” concluded Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer.

The convertible version of the 2015 Ford Mustang will be offered with the same engines fitted in the fastback version. A base 3.7-liter V6 that will generate at least 300 hp and 270 lb-ft, a 2.3-liter EcoBoost that’s estimated to deliver more than 305 hp and 300 lb-ft, and a Coyote V8 that will produce more than 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.

2014 Ford Mustang GT Need for Speed

A custom 2014 Ford Mustang GT starring in the new movie, “Need for Speed”, will be auctioned off for charity by Ford Motor Company at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction on April 12. Building on the excitement of the movie, premiering March 14, this Mustang will be offered at no reserve, with proceeds benefiting the Henry Ford Health System, a not-for-profit group founded by Henry Ford to improve the health and well-being of a diverse community.

“Need for Speed”
is the latest of more than 3,200 film and television appearances for Mustang over the past 50 years. The Mustang being auctioned is one of a handful developed purely for the movie to appear on the silver screen and at promotional stops.

The movie car boasts a custom-designed wide body rolling on unique Forgiato 22-inch alloy wheels. Other design elements include an enlarged lower grille with new air intakes, extended rocker panels, a twin-snorkel hood and low-profile mirrors. The visual sizzle is amplified by custom silver paint with Kona Blue racing stripes and angel-eye fog lamps in the grille.

“Mustang was cast in a leading role of the movie with screen time equal to many of the actors,” said Steve Ling, North America car marketing manager for Ford. “Director Scott Waugh challenged our team to give this central character enough personality and American masculinity to take on some of the world’s most exotic cars, just like in the popular Electronic Arts video game that inspired the movie.

“The new owner of this particular Mustang will take home a rare vehicle, and their bid will increase access to critical health care services.”

Founded in 1915, the Henry Ford Health System is one of the nation’s leading comprehensive, integrated health systems. It provides health insurance and health-care delivery, including acute-, specialty-, primary- and preventive-care services, backed by excellence in research and education. Additional information is available at http://www.henryford.com.

“Need for Speed” is one of the most successful racing video game franchises in the world, with more than 140 million games sold since the original edition debuted 20 years ago. The Dreamworks Studios film stars Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), Dominic Cooper (“Captain America”), Imogen Poots (“Fright Night”) and Michael Keaton (“Batman”), and is directed by Waugh (“Act of Valor”).

Beyond the South Florida Fairgrounds auction stage, Ford will offer ride-and-drive and hot-lap experiences. The public can sample Ford’s stable of 2014 vehicles, as well as hot-lap experiences in the Shelby GT500, Focus ST and Fiesta ST. In addition, Ford is showing the all-new 2015 Mustang and 2015 F-150 in South Florida for the first time.

Shelby GT500 Lego

If you’re like us then you spent countless hours of your childhood playing with Legos. While we occasionally built the pre-designed castles, pirate ship or space craft that came in the sets, more often than not we mixed pieces together to construct a creation of our own.

Of course, none of our custom Lego sets were all that cool or well designed, especially compared to the amazing contraption you see here. Designed by Sheepo’s Garage, who specializes in highly detailed Lego-built vehicles, this 1/8 scale Shelby GT500 is constructed entirely of original Lego parts – 3,500 to be exact – and is amazingly functional. Both drive, braking and steering can be controlled via a remote control, and the car boasts a sequential 5-speed gearbox with reverse, disc brakes linked to a working pedal inside the car, McPherson front struts (just like the real thing!), a 4-link solid rear axle and a working steering wheel. The hood, doors and trunk can all be opened, and the front seats even fold forward to provide better access to the rear buckets.

James Bond 1971 Mustang Mach 1 for sale

James Bond 1971 Mustang Mach 1 for sale

Ever since James Bond took the wheel of an Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger, 007 has been known for his fascination with high-performance and exotic cars. Several of those cars are now for sale, including the only Mustang he ever drove. Forty-two genuine James Bond vehicles (and 17 replicas) are for sale by the Miami Auto Museum. They’re being sold as a single lot for $33 million.

The 1971 Mustang Mach 1 belonged to Tiffany Case (Jill St. John). In its most memorable scene, Bond entered a narrow alley driving on the two passenger-side tires and exited on the driver-side tires. To “fix” the error, producers added a scene in between the entrance and exit shots that inexplicably shows Bond and Case tilt as if the car switched sides.

Besides the Mustang, the lot includes the white and bronze Lotus Esprit Turbos from 1981’s From Your Eyes Only as well as the only driveable Esprit from 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me. That movie featured 007 driving his Lotus off a pier into the water and converting it into a submarine.

Also included are a Land Rover Defender and Audi A5 from Skyfall, the 1966 Aston Martin DB5 used in Goldeneye, and the 2001 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish from Die Another Day. In the film, the Vanquish had a feature that rendered it invisible.

There’s even a replica of Bond’s first Aston Martin—the 1964 DB5 that featured an ejector seat among several other top-secret features. This particular DB was driven by former James Bond actor George Lazenby in The Return of the Man From U.N.C.L.E.

And it’s not just cars. The new owner will take home a tank from Goldeneye, a replica of the fire-breathing dragon tank from Dr. No, a 1976 Kawasaki Z900 with torpedo sidecar used in The Spy Who Loved Me, and a 23’ Fairey Huntress boat, which is the earliest known existing vehicle associated with the James Bond film franchise.

3D-printed 2015 Mustang candies

The chocolate ponycars were made in a limited quantity for a one-time-only Valentine’s Day celebration, but Ford is in talks to potentially license the application, so they could be available for sale in the future.

Ford uses 3D printing to quickly produce prototype parts for design study vehicles. Interior components such as air vents, engine parts like cylinder heads and engine blocks, exterior parts including the fascia and grille, taillights and hood vents were all printed in 3D during the 2015 Mustang design process.
